How To Stop Binge Eating for Weight Loss and Better Health

Ever wonder why the desire to binge eat takes ahold of you? You planned to eat just two slices of pizza, but then ate four and you promised yourself no dessert, but suddenly the pint of ice cream is open. Before you know it you’re stuffed and wondering why it all fell apart. In this blog, your San Jose personal trainers share four of their best tips to help you stop binge eating for weight loss and better health.

How Overeating Sneaks Up on You

Overeating is incredibly common. Sometimes it happens before you realize your descent into calories galore. Eating too fast, mindless munching, or making up for a missed meal. This can result in extra weight, fatigue, disease, and disappointment. The fact of the matter is, you weren’t even that hungry to begin with. Does this sound familiar? The good news is that there are simple habits to incorporate into your meal time routine to slow down the mindless munching and get your weight loss back on track.

Apply These Tips to Stop Binge Eating

San Jose personal trainers recommend four things you can do to combat binge eating:

  1. Take a break – It takes twenty minutes for your stomach to communicate with your brain, “I’m full!” When you are craving second helpings take a twenty minute break before you start eating again. See how you feel. There’s a good chance you’ll no longer want it.
  2. Plan ahead – When you’re hungry, scouring for food can hinder your goals. Plan your meals ahead and prep snacks. When you have healthy choices waiting for you, it becomes less of a chore to make better decisions.
  3. Toss it – Get those temptations out of the house! Don’t sabotage yourself by keeping around that bag of chips or candy. If the food in the pantry isn’t supporting your goals, just toss it.
  4. Get yourself back on track ASAP – One choice that’s misaligned to your goals doesn’t mean the day is a wash. Just start again at your next meal. Be mindful, stay strong and be kind to yourself.
