Ditch Fast Food & Start Making Fast Meals

We get it. You’re a busy professional and/or parent with very little extra time on your hands. The thought of standing in your kitchen for an hour or two to prepare a meal is unfathomable. The solution you turn to is… fast food. After all, it’s easier to swing by In-N-Out on the way home than to slave away in front of your own stove, right? Wrong.

Is “Fast Food” Really More Convenient?

When you calculate what it takes to stand in line (or sit in your car), order, wait for your food, and drive home, it adds up. The truth is this:

  1. You’re not actually saving much (or any) time at all.
  2. Often, you end up spending the same amount of cash on one meal as you would have on an entire trip to the grocery store.
  3. 90% of the time, even meals that seem fairly healthy are packed with hidden ingredients, which add up to more sugar, more fat, and loads of extra calories.

What Can You Do Instead?

The best solution is to start small by stocking up on items you can go to in a pinch. Here are a few of our favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner ideas that are literally JUST as fast, but 10 times healthier and more affordable that hitting the drive through.

BREAKFAST

  • Meal replacement shake with water or milk of your choice (doesn’t get easier than that!)
  • Plain full fat Greek yogurt and a piece of fruit (just grab from the fridge!)

LUNCH

  • Reheated leftovers from last night’s dinner
  • Pre-fixed salad kit from the grocery store (just throw some pre-boiled eggs or pre-grilled protein on top)

DINNER

  • Grab from a hot bar – there are so many great, healthy options! (like at Whole Foods – this is probably faster than the drive thru line!)
  • Get a rotisserie chicken and a bag of steam in the microwave veggies (this will last multiple meals)

Pro-Tip: Replace calorie-laden beverages with water, and you’re good to go!
