Have you been putting in your best effort to eat well and work out hard, only to have the numbers on the scale go up instead of down? With all of the bad advice out there, losing weight can seem tricky. Implement the wrong tips into your diet, and you have a recipe for disaster. That’s why our coaches got together to create this quick list of sneaky reasons why you may be gaining weight. Let’s dive in!
The Consequence of Following Bad Advice
Let’s face it. Some diet advice stinks. Are you doing any of the following?
- Cutting carbs – this can cause over-eating in other calorie-dense foods, like fat (which is good in moderation, but can sabotage your nutrition plan really quickly).
- Skipping meals – fasting can be beneficial in certain circumstances, but passing on one meal can cause you to over-eat at other times of the day.
- Prioritizing cardio over strength training – Burning yourself out on cardio can be detrimental to long-term fat loss.
- Snacking mindlessly – handfuls of this and that throughout the day add up way faster than you think, especially if the choices you’re making are high in sugar or fat.
- Drinking your calories and not accounting for them – If you thought to yourself “Beverages have calories??” just now, the answer is a resounding yes! One or two cocktails, a shake, or a sweet latte may be laden with the same amount of calories as your meal or more!
- Weekends are a free-for-all – Some people are very diligent during the week, but once Friday night hits, they throw all caution to the wind. Unfortunately, you’re just setting yourself back.
- Indulging in over-sized portions – FYI… It is possible to over-do healthy foods. Your body can only process so much in one sitting. The rest, unfortunately, gets stored as fat.
- Neglecting sleep – Your body needs rest in order to function properly. Without enough shuteye, it searches for alternative sources. Namely, food!
- Mis-managing stress – Stress raises your cortisol levels, which causes your body to hold onto fat. Not to mention that many of us have a tendency to succumb to emotional eating as comfort to ease anxiety.
If you’re doing one or more of these things, your diet and lifestyle can use a little love. One of the best ways to resolve all of these is to commit to a nutrition and exercise program with support, accountability, and community, because truly… no one creates success alone!
