Hi! My name is Sue Davis.
I am the nutrition director here at Method3 Fitness. One question I frequently get asked is this “Is it true that the only way to lose weight is to cut out all carbohydrates?”
What Are Carbohydrates?
There are certainly diets out there that have you eliminate all carbohydrates, but what counts as a carbohydrate, really?
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Whole grains.
Those are ALL carbohydrates. Your body processes them as such. So what’s the right answer?
Cut SOME Carbs
Yes, if you cut out all carbohydrates, you’ll ultimately lose weight. But how sustainable is that? If I told you you were never going to eat fruits, vegetables, grains again, that probably would help you lose some weight for about 10 days, and then you’re going to be craving everything that you’ve been told not to eat. Instead, cut out highly processed carbohydrates. You are more likely to lose weight and sustain it.
Here at Method3 Fitness, we believe in a really balanced diet of whole natural foods and proper portions. So eat your carbohydrates, but make sure those carbohydrates come from a mix of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. And not quite so much from your processed breads, biscuits, and cakes. Those carbohydrates do need to be eliminated or at least reduced for healthy weight loss.
Stronger for Today,
Sue Davis
