Have you ever gone to the grocery store to pick up your healthy groceries, and before you know it, a York Peppermint Patty finds it way onto the checkout aisle? Or maybe you walk by a coworker’s desk and they have that little tasty treat box. You grab a couple of M&Ms… every time you walk by. It happens without a second thought, right? There’s a reason for that and a simple way to get out of it.

The Bad Habit Loop

A lot of bad habits occur because we’re on autopilot. We’re not even thinking about what we’re doing. The solution, then, is to become mindful, to interrupt the loop. John tells you how in this edition of Minute to Win It. Watch the video

Quick Review: The Questions

  1. Is this helping me? Is what I’m doing right now moving me closer to achieving my goals or farther away from them?
  2. Do I really need this right now? Am I really hungry or am I tired or stressed?

Just asking these questions interrupts the loop. And if the answer to either one is “no,” you have the opportunity to make a better choice. You can grab something healthy or walk away. What choice will you make?
