San Jose Personal Trainers' Tip to Turn Small Habits Into BIG Results

Have you been making resolutions year after year but still haven’t achieved the fitness goals you set for yourself?

One of the biggest mistakes our San Jose personal fitness trainers see people make when diving into the new year is going in too hard, too fast trying to achieve lofty weight loss or strength goals.  People often turn to fad diets or unsustainable routines to see quick results and end up mentally and physically burned out before the first few months of the year.

Our San Jose personal fitness trainers have a simple tip to help you avoid the never ending "resolutions roller coaster" and achieve your fitness goals once and for all... and the great news is, all you have to do is start small!

The BEST way to approach your journey is to start slow.  Set small habit goals instead of BIG resolutions.

You can’t lose weight or gain strength without adopting the kinds of healthy habits that ultimately lead to the results you're looking for. Those habits include the following:

  • Go to the gym at least 2 times a week. Build a habit of showing up to the gym on your days of choice, regardless of how much time or how much energy you have.  It’s the consistency that ultimately determines whether or not you succeed in weight loss and/or strength gain.
  • Reduce sitting and increase daily movement. Research shows that while structured daily workouts are an important part of getting healthy and fit, those who work out once a day, but sit the rest of the day (at work or at home) are often less fit than those who complete multiple bouts of activity. This can be as simple as going for a short walk after lunch, taking frequent breaks during your workday, or standing to stretch and move after a zoom meeting.
  • Make healthy food choices. Your eating habits can weigh heavily on your results. It’s important to learn what types of foods are conducive to your fitness goals and add more of them to your diet.

Sure… It’s okay to have a weight loss or strength goal in mind. But instead of obsessing about the numbers, our San Jose personal fitness trainers want you to make your main focus building the basic healthy habits you need to get there.

Once you have practiced a simple habit for at least two weeks, you can add more. This will help you steadily shift your daily routine until the healthy habits above seem like second nature and each habit will bring you closer to your goal.
