From Weighted Steps to Shared Success: Inside the Spring Ruck Series

Over the past several weeks, a dedicated crew of Method3 Fitness partners took on an epic challenge: training for a technical day hike at the breathtaking Mt. Tamalpais—and they crushed it!

Led by Coach Yvonne, this 6-week Ruck Series was designed to progressively build stamina, strength, and confidence through weekly hikes and midweek street ruck workouts. Participants started with lighter weight and shorter hikes and gradually increased distance and difficulty. Throughout the series, they learned how to wear weight safely, improve posture, and master trail etiquette (yes, learning that “on your left!” means stay right was a thing!).

Midweek Ruck classes brought some fun to the fundamentals, including creative drills that taught trail etiquette through games and real-world application. As their fitness improved, so did their connection as a group. “By week three, they had the etiquette down. Many were seasoned hikers, but for some, it was all new—and they were rock stars,” Coach Yvonne said.

To simulate trail conditions, participants trained with weighted packs, which helped boost cardiovascular endurance and strengthen their legs, core, and mindset. But as the final hike approached, Coach Yvonne adjusted the plan. “Mt. Tam is a technical hike with constantly changing terrain, so I encouraged them to reduce their weight for safety while still carrying a pack,” she shared.

🌿 The Final Adventure: Mt. Tamalpais

The day of the final hike couldn’t have been more perfect. The group set out early and was greeted with sunshine, a refreshing breeze, and a trail that felt straight out of a fairytale. Starting in a lush redwood forest filled with ferns and small waterfalls, they gradually climbed toward sweeping wildflower-filled ridgelines with ocean views.

But the crown jewel of the hike? A hidden wooden ladder nestled within the Steep Ravine section of the trail. The group ascended this iconic feature—built into the rugged canyon wall—adding an unexpected thrill to their already challenging journey.

The terrain changed dramatically throughout—from dense redwoods to rocky slopes and open meadows—but the group’s determination never wavered. “They kept lifting each other up—literally and figuratively,” said Yvonne. “Everyone shared snacks, took care of one another, and made sure no one was left behind.”

To top it all off, the group celebrated with a well-earned lunch and smiles all around.

“It was one of those magical days where everything clicked—fitness, nature, community.” Yvonne said.
