Fast forward to the future… when you’ve already achieved your fitness goals. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What do you look like?
- How much do you weigh?
- What clothes are you fitting into?
- Do you feel stronger?
This is the practice of visualization. Through visualization, you create a mental picture of the person you would like to become once your goals have been achieved. Seeing it in your mind helps you believe in your gut that you are capable of succeeding.
How to Practice Visualization
To start visualizing, all you have to do is close your eyes and imagine what life is gonna be like after you’ve put in the work. It might look something like this:
- You’ve dialed in your nutrition.
- You’ve become consistent with your workouts
- You’re getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
- You set aside time each week to practice mindfulness and self-care
- You feel energized, more focused, and happier.
Does that sound about right? There’s one easy way to find out.
Do It Now
Stop what you’re doing right now and take five minutes to visualize the end in mind. Answer the question: What does it look like to have finally achieved that health and fitness goal that you’ve always wanted to achieve? Then, replay in your head exactly what you need to do and who you need to become to achieve that goal.
- What habits have you adopted?
- How many workouts do you complete each week? At what time?
- What do your eating habits look like? Are you keeping a food journal?
- Who is supporting you in this process? Your personal trainer? A friend? Someone else?
Create the picture in your mind, as if you are watching the film of your life, the process of you transforming from who you are today to who you want to become.
Write It Down
Write down everything you came up with in a journal. Review it weekly or even daily for motivation and revise as needed. This process of visualization can be a game changer for you if you commit to practicing it regularly. So watch out. It’s gonna be awesome!
