Ever feel like you're showing up, doing the work… Here’s why our Los Gatos trainers suggest that happens, and how to jumpstart that progress in less than 20 minutes. As you get fitter and your body adapts, the same workouts that used to feel challenging eventually stop sending the signal your body needs to change to keep up. That’s where a strategy called peripheral heart action training (PHA) comes in. (Don’t worry, the name sounds more technical than it is.) Here’s how it works: You alternate between an upper body exercise and a lower body exercise to keep your heart working and your muscles guessing. This approach helps: The bonus is that you don’t need a long workout to see results… 15–20 focused minutes is enough to shake things up and get your progress started again. Los Gatos Trainers’ 6-Move Plateau Buster Circuit Warm up with easy cardio first, and then do each move for 40 seconds, rest for 20 seconds, and then move on to the next exercise in the circuit. Complete 2-3 rounds. Adjust as needed based on your energy and fitness level. Move 1: Squat Move 2: Overhead DB press Move 3: Glute bridge Move 4: Pushups Move 5: Reverse lunges After all six moves, rest for one minute, and repeat. Los Gatos personal trainers suggest that you do a workout like this 1-2 times a week to help boost your stamina, metabolism, and fitness. Progress doesn’t always come from doing more or working longer! It comes from being consistent, and short, effective workouts like this one make that easier.
